Steven Anthony Steinley died Aug. 10, 2012 at his home in Conroe, Texas. He was 48.

He was born Jan. 18, 1964, in Chowchilla, Calif.

Steve graduated Rapid City (SD) Central High School in 1982. He attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City. He graduated from Colorado Technical Institute in Broomfield, Colorado. Steve was a Continental Airlines (now United) technician where he celebrated 25 years of employment in June. Steve started his long work career as a Bumper Boy Boss at the Rapid City, SD, Cosmos of the Black Hills before working for several years at the Rapid City Dairy Queen.

Steve was a keen fitness enthusiast, completing marathons and several half marathons; and, he was an avid cyclist. He was a member of The Woodlands Running Club and Bike Lane Cycling Team of Conroe, Texas. Mountain biking, snow skiing, tennis, soccer and swimming were also sports that he enjoyed. Steve was always ready to compete and thrived on competition. He didn't like to lose and would often play harder, run faster and further than made good sense.

He was generous with his time and skills. Often friends and family members would find Steve had flown hundreds of miles with a bag of tools to fix their ailing car, help with a rattling home appliance or install a sprinkler system. He also donated many of his mornings to the young runners of the York Eagles, coaching them and helping them improve their times even in their offseason.

Steve's interest in mechanics started at an early age. In high school he was often restoring a Mustang on the hill in front of his mother's home using tools he "borrowed" from his stepfather's toolbox. Steve became a highly-skilled, self-taught mechanic and became well known for restoring classic vehicles - Mustangs and Camaros were among his favorites. It was common to see a 1965 Ford Mustang or 1969 Camaro in his garage ready to be restored tranny up. His appreciation for the classics showed; each vehicle left his garage in showroom condition.

Survivors include his former wife and special friend, Julie (Hargett) Steinley, Christopher, son, Alicia, daughter; Lucy (Wright), mother, Larry Wright, stepfather, Rapid City, SD; Gary Steinley, father, Nan Steinley, stepmother, Spearfish, SD; brothers Mike (Liz) Steinley, West Chester, Penn.,; Jerry (Lynne) Steinley, Rapid City, SD; half-sister Grace (Tony Felos), Sharon, Mass.; step-brothers Preston (Kal) Wright, Boston, Mass., Colin (Mira) Wright, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Nieces and nephews Nicholas and Katrina Steinley, West Chester, Penn,; Hannah and Alexander Steinley, Rapid City, SD; Ian Felos, Boston, Mass.; and Noah Wright, Boston.
