Mr. Stevenson Thomas Welch, Jr., age 68, of Montgomery, TX, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011, after a battle with cancer. Steve was born in Gainesville, GA, on April 7, 1943, to Steve Welch, Sr. and Julie Montine Grizzle.

After the death of his father, Steve was raised by his mother Montine and stepfather Lonza H. Turner in Gulf Breeze, FL. After serving in the Army, Steve settled into a career in sales. He had a particular nthusiasm for powerboats and spent many years competing through amateur drag boat circuits. He was no stranger to victory and though he has no competed in many years, his name is still known fondly amongst former followers and competitors. Steve's three sons and grandson have all been active in the sport and spent many years with their dad learning the intricacies and delicate nature of drag boat racing.

Steve will be remembered as a dedicated family man and as a diligent, productive professional. Plagued by poor health in his later years, he was uncomplaining and a delight to his family. He will be greatly missed.

Steve is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cathrine Preston Welch; sons Steve, Doug, and Ryan (Kelley) Welch; and daughters Carlynne and Nathali Welch. Steve has five grandchildren: Steve Welch IV, Stephanie Welch, Kayla Butler, Whitney and Kadie Welch. Steve is also survived by seven remarkable siblings: Eunice "Chici" Crudele, Lonnie Turner, Doug (Patti) Turner, Cecelia (Jeff) Kage, Patricia Gore, Donna (Hank)Cobia, and Renee (Jim) McGrory.

Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, at Klein Funeral Home, Magnolia, where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 10.
