Tanya Lynn McKelvey, 56, of Montgomery, Texas, passed away late Friday, February 3, 2017. Her last days were spent with her family by her side. A native Texan, Tanya was born on June 29, 1960, in Wichita Falls to Nathan and JoAnn Jordan, who originally were from southeast Missouri. Her childhood was that of a military family, including several locations in the United States and abroad. Her parents located to Ocean Springs, Mississippi, upon retirement from Air Force life; it was Ocean Springs that she called home. She married Paul McKelvey of Lafayette, Louisiana in November of 1984. The couple's two sons, Brent and Chris, were born there. In 1991 she moved to The Woodlands, Texas, and has been a Montgomery County resident ever since.

Tanya's life was dedicated to Christ, motherhood, and service. While raising her two children she was an active leader in the Boy Scouts of America. She served as a den mom, and in later years impacted thousands of youth by training hundreds of adults in the program. She also taught Sunday School and Communion classes at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Spring, Texas, for many years. She volunteered for almost ten years at St. Luke's The Woodlands Hospital Auxiliary, until relocating in 2013 to Montgomery. She then turned her volunteer focus to service with the Assistance League of Montgomery County. Tanya's true passion was her creativity. As a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Conroe, Texas, she and her friends created many items for donation to those in need. Those who knew Tanya's work were always amazed by her attention to detail and perfection in her work. She and her husband enjoyed a decade of travel after their sons left to further their education. Together they enjoyed many camping trips throughout Texas, enjoying a love of God's creation that shaped Tanya's life. In her final two years, Tanya was blessed to know the joy of being a grandparent.

She is survived by her husband Paul, son Chris, son Brent and his wife Sarah, and her granddaughter Elliotte, all of Montgomery, Texas. She is also survived by her father Nathan Jordan of Ocean Springs and sister Terri Nunenmacher of Gautier, Mississippi.

A Memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at St. James Episcopal Church in Conroe, with the assistance of Conroe Funeral Directors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tanya McKelvey Memorial Scholarship. This fund has been established at the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas, which trains future lay and ordained leaders in the Episcopal Church of America. Contributions may be sent to Seminary of the Southwest c/o Mrs. Betty K. Hewell at 501 E. 32nd Street, Austin, TX, 78705; or online at ssw.edu; or call 512-472-4133.
