Thomas Joe Johnson, 84, passed away on February 22, 2017, after a five year battle with cancer. He was born in Pattonville, Texas on March 3, 1932 to Coy and Zelda Johnson. The family moved to Hollis, Oklahoma in 1936. There Thomas, known as "Joe" to his friends in Hollis, grew up on a farm in the Ron Community, and attended Ron High School where he was a member of their basketball team which remained undefeated until the State Final Championship, where they were defeated by Tuska High School, 26 - 23. Tom graduated with the Ron Class of 1950 as Salutatorian. After retiring from the Air Force he worked for Verizon, then known as GTE, for many years. Upon retiring from Verizon Tom and his wife Carolyn moved to Conroe, Texas to be near their children. They then RV'd for many years, traveling to forty-eight states. He served many years as a deacon to several Baptist churches in the area.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; Carolyn, his wife of 57 years; his daughter Laura Johnson Croston; his grandson Thomas, and his brothers Connie Max and Russel Johnson. His life is celebrated by his surviving brother Murrell and his wife Maxine; daughter Cathryn Johnson Moody and her husband Dwight; daughter Melissa Johnson Wochy and her husband Randy; son Andrew Johnson and his wife Charlotte, and 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 24at 5:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Rd. in Conroe, Texas. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 25 at 3:00 p.m. at West Conroe Baptist Church, 1855 Longmire, Conroe, Texas. Friends are welcome to arrive at 2:30 p.m. to view a video of an interview with Tom. Pallbearers will be: Mark Johnson, Mike Johnson, Matt Johnson, Blake Moody, David Koscienski, Forrest Carr, Merwyn Croston and Chris Thompson. Following the service, there will be a military honors graveside service at Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery, next to Mims Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends send memorial gifts to the Vineyard Benevolence Fund at West Conroe Baptist Church, 1855 Longmire Rd., Conroe, Texas 77304.
