Toby Bodenstedt was born July 7, 1927 in Wichita, Kansas and went to her heavenly home March 13, 2015 in Houston, Texas at the age of 87. She grew up in Elmhurst, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. Toby graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana in 1949. She had a master's in education and taught school for 17 years, including St. Thomas More in Houston, and also served as an assistant principal for 4 years. The children she taught over the years adored her and she was awarded teacher of the year in 1980. She was a member of Pi Phi sorority and P.E.O. Sisterhood. Toby was blessed to have met and married Charlie Bodenstedt in 1983. They enjoyed volunteering together at the annual Houston Shell Open golf tournament and the food pantry at St. Vincent De Paul, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She loved golf and was a member of Panorama Country Club and past president of many organizations including Panorama Women's Golf Association and the Panorama Garden Club. She was blessed with many dear friends with whom she enjoyed travel, bridge, needle work and golf. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to her wonderful caregivers: Felicia Crawford, Hattie Johnson and Sandra Morris. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Nestor Moore Thorwaldson; husband, Charlie Bodenstedt and brother, Jon Thorwaldson. Toby is survived by her son, Paul Therrien and wife Janice of Houston, Texas; daughter, Lu Caltagirone and husband Tom of Houston, Texas; grandchildren: Jerry Therrien and wife Chris, Sandy Therrien and wife Mandy, John Caltagirone and wife Jill and Lauren Caltagirone; great grandchildren: Madison Therrien, Emerson Therrien, Davis Therrien, T.J. Therrien, Julia Schoen and Whitney Caltagirone. She is also survived by her step children, Jim Bodenstedt and wife Pam, of The Woodlands, Texas and Marcia Cremin of Naperville, Illinois and daughter Catie Cremin of Washington D.C. and Ron Bodenstedt of St. Louis, Missouri. She is also survived by her sister in law, Nancy Thorwaldson of Austin, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Cashner Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 6-7pm with the Rosary Service at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11am on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 with Father Oscar Dubon officiating. A private family burial will be in the Garden Park Cemetery.
