Velma Iona Powell, 83, of Montgomery, Texas, passed away March 21, 2016.

Born in Alice, Texas to Herbert and Velma Gouner. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas where she was a avid member of the Brigadeers. She attended Baylor University, and worked in education, both at Lee College in Baytown and Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington where they lived for many years and enjoyed the Pacific Northwest camping and boating activities with cruising in Puget Sound and the Inside Passage in their boat. She gifted Baytown with her impeccable sense of style through her boutique "Bay, Beach, and Town". In retirement she traveled extensively with her husband throughout the United States in their motor home and volunteered as Hosts in several State Camp Grounds. She enjoyed the constant companionship throughout her life of her dachshund dogs, Hans, Fritz, and Carmie.

Iona now joins her beloved husband Ralph Powell in everlasting life, and is survived by her children Andree Elaine and husband Richard, Kim Stafford and Wife Parmela, and Milton Scott and Wife Lisa, as well two generations of grandchildren and spouses.

The Brownwood subdivision in Baytown, was her home for quite some time, and it has since become the Baytown Nature Center. Donating to the Friends of Baytown Nature Center is a constructive way to honor her memory; the family requests that donations be sent to this organization in lieu of flowers.
