Walter enlisted in the United States Navy on March 30, 1969 and served two tours on the USS Ogden and the USS Debuke. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. After being honorably discharged with an E-5, Mr. Hardy returned to the Houston and Conroe areas to be close to his loving family.

Walter Joe is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Teresa Stanley-Hardy and by his siblings, Linda Sackett and husband Elton of Spring, Texas, Barbara Nickelson and husband Bob of Kemah, Texas, Jerry Hardy of Korea, and Peggy McElroy and husband Joe of Lufkin, Texas. He is also survived by his daughter, Heather Mitchell and husband Matthew of Willis, Texas, and son Charles Stanley and wife Britanie of Huntsville, Texas. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews that he leaves with memories of stories told many times over.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Linda and Elton Sackett. Your generosity and support ensured that Walter's last days were as peaceful as possible.

A memorial service for Walter will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 6 o'clock in the evening at The American Legion, located at 13054 East FM 1097 Road, Willis, Texas 77378.
