Walter Orlando Novelly, 95 of Granbury Texas, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 1:05am. He was born on December 22, 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Pilade Maria & Emma Kathryn (Zadra) Novelly. He attended St. Barbara's Catholic School, graduated from Jesuit High School, and attended and graduated from St. Louis University with a degree in geology and geophysics in 1940. Walt immediately went to work in the oil industry as a geophysicist. He served in the Army from 1946 to 1947 with a tour of duty in post-war Japan after which he returned to work in Tulsa with Republic Exploration Company. It was in Tulsa that he met a nurse, Antoinette Marie Weixelman. They married at St. Joseph Church in Flush, Kansas on January 28, 1950. Back in Tulsa, Walt & Toni started their family of six children before moving to San Antonio, Texas in 1965 where he worked for Petty Geophysical in the Tower Life building downtown.

Walt spent his retirement traveling to six continents and 59 countries, playing golf and maintaining his house in Montgomery, Texas on Lake Conroe. He was active throughout life, driving a six state tour at age 92 and serving on the board at Lakestone Terrace retirement community in Granbury, Texas.

Survivors include Antoinette Novelly; children, Greg (Lisa) Novelly, Colorado Springs, Maria (Jon) Novelly-Shapiro, Manchester, England, Nancy (Gerald) Naumann, Boerne, Texas, Tom Novelly, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Nick (Denise) Novelly, St. Marys, Kansas, Paul (Amy) Novelli, Granbury, Texas; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brother, and three sisters.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego, Kansas. Requiem Mass was on Friday morning, April 11, 2014 at Assumption Chapel in St. Marys. A Rosary was recited on Thursday evening at 6:20 at the church. Interment was held in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, and sent in care of Stewart Funeral Home
