The Guest Book is expired.

Robert "Wayland" Mitchell died peacefully at his home on March 9, 2015 in Conroe, Texas at the age of 80. At his death, he passed immediately into the loving presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and is now enjoying an amazing reunion with his loved ones and reveling in his new body.

Wayland is survived by Jeaneane, his beloved wife of sixty years, his three daughters - Marijan Smith and her husband Alan, Melanie McEwen and her husband Scott, and Manda Smith and her husband Rick. Wayland and Jeaneane have five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, with a twelfth on the way this summer. He was preceded in death by his mother Alyce Rogers and his father Hugh Aubrey Rogers.

Wayland was born on September 13, 1934 in Greenville, Texas. He lived most of his childhood and early adult life in Childress, Texas, graduating from Childress High School in 1951. He attended Texas Tech University, graduating in 1955 with a degree in Dairy Science.

Wayland spent much of his career with the Southland Corporation, working in dairy operations and management. Most of his professional years were spent in the Dallas area and Colorado Springs, before he retired in 1989. After retirement Wayland and Jeaneane lived in a number of locations and enjoyed wonderful friendships in Golden, Texas, Del Norte, Colorado, and Lake Fork, Texas, before moving to Conroe in 2011.

Wayland had many passions including camping, RV travel, square dancing, country and western music, football, bridge and just about any other card or board game. He and Jeaneane were active in churches wherever they lived, and he served on Deacon Boards and as a member of many church committees over the years.

A memorial service and celebration of Wayland's life will be held at a later time to allow all family members to be present. Condolences for Jeaneane can be sent in care of Melanie McEwen, 51 Hollymead Dr. The Woodlands, TX 77381.
