Retired Sergeant Wayne Hance Bearden was born March 6, 1955 in Dalton, Georgia to Wayman Hance and Pamela Anne Cheshire Bearden. He went home to be with his Lord, with his loving family by his side, on December 4, 2014 in Houston, Texas at the age of 59 due to complications with acute myeloid leukemia. Wayne's life was full of love and service for God, his family, the community (where he served as police officer for 36 years), and the Georgia Bulldogs. Wayne is the father of Police Officer Dustin Bearden assigned to the North Division with the Houston Police Department. Wayne joined HPD Academy Class #81 on March 13, 1978, and retired on February 4, 2011. During his career, he served at the Central Division, Jail Division, Special Operations Division, Burglary and Theft Division, and retired while last assigned to the Major Offenders Division. Before serving on the Houston Police Department, Wayne began his police career at the age of 19 with the Biloxi Police Department and served there for 3 years. After Wayne retired, he spent the last three years vacationing with his wife, spending time with his family, and attending Georgia Bulldog football games. No one was a stranger to Wayne, whether you were with him on the police force or the manager of his favorite restaurant, Fuddruckers. He was always quick to strike up a conversation or say a quick prayer with a friend. He is survived by his mother Pamela Anne Bearden of Douglasville, Georgia; his beloved wife of 38 years Laura Rene Bearden of Spring, Texas; two daughters, Kristen Rene Herrington and Michelle Lindsey Griffis and husband Stephen, both of Spring, Texas; his four sons, Wade Hance Bearden and wife Priscilla of Tomball, Texas, Ryan Kyle Bearden and wife Elsa of Conroe, Texas, Dustin Kenton Bearden and Joshua Robert Bearden, both of Spring, Texas; his sister Sharon Lebo and husband Matthew of Farmington, Minnesota; his brother Raymond Bearden and Patricia Amerson of Kennesaw, Georgia and by his five grandchildren: Addyson Griffis, Elijah Herrington, Jackson Herrington, Simon Griffis and Weston Hance Bearden. Visitation will be at Cashner Funeral Home on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 6-8pm. The service celebrating his life will be Friday, December 12, 2014 at the First Assembly of God in Conroe, Texas (3993 I-45 North Conroe, Texas 77304) at 1:00pm with Pastor Lloyd Maddoux and HPD Chaplain Monty Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, Texas with honors provided by the Houston Police Department. Visit our website at www.cashnerconroe.com. "O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:55-57
