Mr. Schmidt, born November 12, 1924 in Chesterville, TX, and passed on March 10, 2015 at St. Joseph's Manor in Bryan, TX.

He was a veteran of WWII serving as a gunner on an amphibious tank in the battle of Iwo Jima, Tinian and Saipan. Awarded a Presidential Citation for Valor.

Employed by Walter Mischer for 36 years in heavy civil construction. Resided in Houston, Willis, and Normangee. Preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Lillian; brother John; sisters Toni and Anita; son Kenneth; granddaughter Janet; and great-grandbaby.

Survived by son William; daughter June K. Walton (Robert); son John (Judie); 7 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; 2 step great-great grandchildren; 21 nieces and nephews; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation on Friday, March 13 th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home located at 10129 W. FM 1097, Willis, TX.

Graveside services to be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Chesterville Cemetery, County Road 262, East Bernard, TX.
