William Bruce Atkinson entered into Heaven June 17, 2013, at the age of 64. He was born January 12, 1949 in Conroe to the late Myron and Mildred Atkinson. Bruce graduated from Conroe High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University. During his career, he worked for the Texas Highway Dept., served as an officer with the Conroe and Bellaire Police Depts., Moran Utilities Gas Co., Texas Commerce Bank, and J.P. Morgan Chase Bank. He earned his Certified Public Accountants license and became a Financial Advisor. He fell in love with flying at an early age and at 16 earned his first pilots license. Later he earned his commercial, instrument, and multi-engine licenses. As a young man, he was licensed as a preacher at First Baptist Church Groceville. His love for the Lord encouraged him to serve on several committees at West Conroe Baptist Church. He also enjoyed motorcycle rides with fellow Christians from his church.

Bruce loved and was most proud of his family. He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Neal Fikes; son, Daniel; sisters and brothers-in law, Carolyn and Marvin Musgrove; Mary Beth and Michael McCarthy; nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

Visitation will be at Metcalf Funeral Home June 18, 2013 from 5 to 7 pm. A memorial service will be Wednesday June 19, 2013 at 2 pm in the chapel at West Conroe Baptist Church. Dr. Jay Gross and Rev. G.W. Neiderhoffer will officiate with burial at Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the , Embracing Hospice of Conroe or The Gideons International. The family wishes to thank doctors, nurses, friends and family for their support during his illness.
