William Joe "Bill" Shafer, 47 of rural Findlay passed away late Sunday morning, January 24, 2016 at Birchaven Health Care Center, surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Findlay on May 4, 1968 to Joe O. Shafer of Findlay and Delores Ross of Coldspring, TX. Bill is also survived by his step-mother: Cheryl Shafer of Findlay, step-father: James Ross of Coldspring, TX, one daughter: Miranda (Shafer) Shoemaker of Findlay. Bill was blessed with one special granddaughter: Nevaeh Shoemaker and sisters: Tuanya Stotts and Dawn (Bobby) Housos both of Conroe, TX. Bill also has two brothers: Anthony "Tony" Donnell of Findlay and Scott E. Woodward of Findlay. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles whom he loved dearly.

Bill was preceded in death by paternal grandparents: Harold and Marilyn Shafer, maternal grandparents: Jim and Mary Ross, and sister: Tammy Spears.

Bill enjoyed raising tomatoes for his family's Shafer Produce Stand and also working at the stand and helping on the family farm. He also worked for Binner and Donnell Home Construction and helped John Wolfe at his farm. He has helped many neighbors over the years by being a great farm hand. Bill liked to spend his time outdoors baling straw and hay, and cutting firewood, Bill was one of a kind. The family would like to thank Bridge Home Health and Hospice as well as the caring staff at Birchaven and Blanchard Valley Hospital for taking exceptional care of Bill.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 29, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor David Noel officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Bechtel Cemetery in Van Buren, OH.
