Joseph J. W. Jones


Joseph J. W. Jones passed away on October 31, 2012. Joe was born in New Orleans, LA in1922 and moved with his family to Collingswood, NJ in 1935. He graduated from Collingswood High School in 1942 and attended Temple University on a football scholarship. Joe served in the Army Air Corps during WW II in Hawaii and was honorably discharged in 1946. He graduated in 1950 from LaSalle University. He married Catherine Simica of Pittsburgh, PA in 1966. Joe enjoyed his working years, and retired from Boeing Aircraft in 1987. He was a longtime member of the "Breakfast Club" and the Colls Old Grads, and was inducted into the Colls High Hall of Fame in 1995. He was known for his great personality, love of sports (especially the Phillies and Eagles) and his wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Mildred and Edward Jones, his wife, Cathy, a brother, Ben and two sisters, Ruth Jones and Janet Tyler (and husband Norman). He is survived by a sister Betty Gehris,her husband Peter, their sons Jon and Jeremy and their families. He leaves a niece Lynne Swartz, her husband Tom and a nephew Eric Tyler his wife JoJami, many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He also leaves a family friend, Mary Bostock, and a dear friend, Phyllis Pierson and her family.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Collingswood Athletic Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 512, Collingswood, NJ 08108, Attention: William McLaughlin.
