Eleanor Davis Obituary

Eleanor G. Davis

Eleanor G. Davis, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on March 19, 2020, in Voorhees, New Jersey.

Eleanor was born Eleanor Gertrude Lowe to David and Thelma Lowe on December 3, 1930, in Camden, New Jersey. She was the oldest of their 11 children. At an early age, she showed a fondness for music and learned to play the violin. Eleanor continued to play the piano, sing, and dance throughout her life.

Eleanor, along with her sister Reba, began her education at St. Mary's School in Camden. She attended Camden Catholic High School and graduated from Camden High School in 1949.

While in high school, Eleanor met the love of her life, Clarence H. Davis, known to many as Boogieman. They married at St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church on December 29, 1951. Together Eleanor and Clarence had six children: Gary, Kevin, Wendell, Dwayne, Tyrone, and Sharon.

While raising her children, Eleanor continued her education at Camden County Vocational School and Rutgers University. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and worked for organizations such as Cooper Hospital, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, and Mount Laurel Nursing Home. She was a consultant for several companies, including Shacklee Products and BeeLine Fashions. Eleanor also organized trips for her family and the community to Aruba, Bermuda, Broadway, Cancún, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and other exciting destinations.

After retirement, Eleanor pursued her love of arts and crafts, painting, pottery, and decorating. Her elegant bows, angels, and wreaths made the holidays bright. She spent warm winters in Florida, attended bible studies, and held leadership roles in her condominium association and OA community. She was thrilled to welcome grandchildren into her life: Akibba, Kimberly, Erik, Briyana, Brandon, Taylor, Dwnaye, and Ryan. She loved being Grandmom.

In 1993, Eleanor and her beloved husband left Camden after more than 60 years to start a home in Cherry Hill. Eleanor enjoyed creating a beautiful, warm home filled with love. She always found the perfect balcony plant, the right shade of eggshell wall paint, and the best angel to top the Christmas tree. In 2018, Eleanor was overjoyed to meet her first great-grandchild, Nay'ani.

Eleanor lived her entire life with determination, grace, and love. She adored fashion, lively celebrations, and decadent desserts. She loved going to the gym, staying healthy, and deepening her relationship with God. Eleanor also enjoyed taking photos and keeping up with loved ones on social media. She cherished her family, and their presence always sparked a radiant smile. She is loved and will always be remembered.

Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, David & Thelma Lowe; her sisters, Reba Holmes and Marlene Glasco; and her brothers, David Lowe, Jr., Patrick Lowe, and Matthew Lowe.

Eleanor is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 68 years, Clarence H. Davis; her children, Gary (Sonjia), Kevin (Ethel), Wendell (Susan), Dwayne, Tyrone (Stephanie), and Sharon; her son-in-law, Nathaniel; her grandchildren, Akibba, Kimberly, Erik (Tali), Briyana, Brandon, Taylor, Dwnaye, Ryan; her great-grandchild, Nay'ani; her sister, Theresa Smith; her brothers, Anthony Lowe, Orlando "Butch" Lowe, Jude Lowe, and Oliver "Wayne" Lowe; and many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, caregivers, and friends.
