The first football game I went to was at West Point when Charlie was the star running back. I became infatuated with the game by watching Charlie. I always remembered Charlie, and today was the Army /Navy game which made me think of him, so I googled him and saw this obituary. Its amazing how someone we watch in a football game when we are 13 can make such an impression on us. My youngest son played 2 football games against Army, 1 game at Yankee Stadium, which brought back the memory of watching Charlie run. Never knew you Charlie but you made a life long impression on me. God Bless

I was a Plebe when Charlie visited West Point considering playing football for the academy. I showed him around and recommended he join. The rest is history. We played together on Football & Lacrosse teams. I just visited him in September 2017. Little did I know that would be the last time I would see him. What a fine person and a great team mate. I will miss him!

I played against Charlie in the Philadelphia City Football Game at Franklin Field that was played on December 12th 1964. I played for Frankford H.S. and we lost in the last 56 seconds 19-18. I remember tackling Charlie twice...and I could readily see why he starred later at West Point because when he ran straight at you ,you had the choice of moving out of his way or meeting both of his knees . I chose the latter. That's why I knew he would excel wherever he played football. Charlie may you rest in peace. I shall close with a statement Billy Graham said to his son Franklin before he departed. I shall paraphrase "I'm not leaving, I'm just changing my address".

I had the good fortune to reconnect with Charlie during the Army Sports Hall of Fame weekend last September. Despite his circumstances he managed to stay strong and be positive. We had the best time reminiscing about so many things. I will forever have fond memories of those times we shared at West Point in the '60s. Rest in Peace...

Charlie,
You set the example for us in the 60s on the gridiron and lacrosse field and the entire West Point Community worldwide was thrilled by your exploits during very trying times.
In the past few years, you once again set the example for your classmates and friends with your grace and ability to handle adversity.
All who knew you were lifted by your spirit and humility. Rest in Peace.

May I extend my sincere condolences to the children of Charlie, and especially his Mother. I came to know Charlie thru my Brother, Vince Buondonno, who passed . Vince and Charlie attended many Army/Navy football games together, and also had the privilege of a great working relationship. They respected each other and formed a friendship second to none. Charlie was a true Gentleman and a respected Army Man. I will always remember him. I know he and my brother are together again, in heaven. May God watch over all of you and help you during this difficult time. Knowing how well Charlie was liked may lighten the heavy heart you now carry. Charlie, you will truly be missed by many.

Dear Charlie
You never shied away from making things happen, always charging forward. You never showed fear of failure, only confidence you could and would be successful. Your children and grandchildren will always find a welcoming smile, warm hugs and love in my heart for them. May you rest in peace.
