Emery James Bittmann

Gloucester City - Emery James Bittmann, 81, of Gloucester City, lost his battle with cancer on 3/22/18. Emery was a long time resident of Gloucester and dedicated to his community. He was a member of the VFW 3620, Odd Fellows Amity 166, Knights of Columbus, and was member and past commander of American Legion post 135. He assumed administration of Cedar Grove cemetery for over 20 years. He worked hard using much of his own equipment to maintain the beauty and dignity of the cemetery, as well as repairing what was needed. He put in Veteran's Lane to honor the fallen, and a special cremation section. He spent many hours in his wood shop creating items for loved ones. He was also a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Emery was pre-deceased by parents, Henry George and Elizabeth Mae (Duchneskie). He is survived by wife Linda Sue; children, Rose Cintron-Allen (Ed), James Bittmann (Susan), Henry Bittmann (Anna Marie), Carol Sparlin (Lem), and Eric Bittmann (Stacey); grandchildren, Danielle Cintron, Efrain Cintron, Mark Sparlin, Shawn Bittmann, Evan Bittmann, Emma Bittmann, Christian Bittmann, Nicole Bittmann, and Christopher Bittmann; Great-Grandchildren, Samantha Cohen and Melissa Cohen; and siblings Mary Ann Shoemaker (George), Bill Bittmann Sr. (Mary Alice), Nancy Wade (Gary), and Karin Gulizio.

A viewing will be held on Weds morning 3/28/18, from 9-10:30 AM at McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 851 Monmouth St., Gloucester City, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM at St. Mary's Church. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Gloucester City.

Emery was truly a unique individual, his attention to detail in his speaking and in his life a testament to his military training. A more caring and attentive person would be hard to find. Condolences to the family.

My oldest brother; he never missed telephoning me every year on my birthday, when the phone rang I always knew it was him. He always remembered to send cards; always thoughtful like that. He was caring and loving; could be loud and grumpy but oh so happy to share memories, stories and spend time together. I'll miss him dearly. You're in heaven now with Mom & Dad, dear brother. RIP.

Dear Linda and Family
The very many people that Emery touched and assisted will forever morn his passing. I always felt, my many family members, buried in Cedar Grove were in good hands in Emery's care. There are a few people, that can just not be replaced, my friend Emery is one of these.
