Boonville, Indiana - Wayne Geurin was born on February 11, 1926 in a small one bedroom log home in Ft. Henry Tennessee. The doctor was busy that night so Wayne came into the world with the help of a neighbor lady assisting his Mother "Laura Wofford Geurin" birthing that baby boy. Wayne had 8 brothers and sisters with one passing away at a young age.
His mother believed in education and stressed for all of her children and grandchildren to continue their education. She lived in Stewart County Tennessee until she was 93 years old. Waynes father was Smith Geurin also of Stewart County Tennessee.
Wayne left High School after his junior year May 15 1944 and joined the Navy. He served in the Navy for 2 years with the Seabees. While in World War ll his ship was torpedoed and sank on Christmas Day 1944. Mr. Geurin received a bronze star as a result during his service. After Wayne left the Navy he returned to his roots in Tennessee. He used his GI bill to attend Murray State College and played baseball for the Racers. Upon graduation he went to work for the Atomic plant in Paducah as a Captain in the Guard Force.
Mr. Alfred Bennett superintendent of schools from Warrick County Indiana came to Murray State recruiting young Educators to Indiana. Wayne and family left Murray Kentucky planning to spend one year in Indiana. Wayne spent his first year teaching 6th grade at Clarke Elementary then he went on to Boonville Jr High School where he would spend 3 years teaching and coaching Basketball, Football and Track.
In 1958 Warrick County School Corporation asked Mr. Geurin to become the youngest Principal in Warrick County at that time. He accepted the Principals job at Clarke Elementary and remained for 17 years. Loge Elementary was built to replace the Clarke building. He would go on to finish the last 12 years of his career at Loge Elementary Boonville Indiana.
Mr. Geurin is known for starting the first Warrick County Track meet for Elementary Schools. That Annual meet is still held today for all Elementary schools in Warrick County. The track that is found behind Loge Grade school is named " The Wayne Geurin Field"
Wayne was married to Gail Owen Geurin for 47 years.
He is a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Boonville Indiana, a 50 year member of Strangers Rest Masonic Lodge #240. In addition he had the honor of becoming a Kentucky Colonel.
Oh ......he loves the Kentucky Cats.
Wayne Geurin is known for growing his famous "Mr. Geurin's tomatos".

Services will be 12 P.M. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Main Street General Baptist Church in Boonville, Indiana with Pastor Rodney Sloan and Pastor John Swain officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 A.M. until 12 P.M. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the church.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Wofford Cemetery in Dover, Tennessee, 1600 Walnut Grove Road, Dover, TN. 37058. Military honors will be held at the cemetery.
