Evansville - Joseph Basil Honnigford, 84, of Evansville, IN died Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2019. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Joe's life was a life well lived. At St. Benedict Elementary and Reitz Memorial High School, he built lifelong friendships and a solid faith foundation. He graduated from Purdue University, Rensselaer Polytechnic, and the University of Evansville, earning master's degrees in chemical engineering and business. He worked 37 years at Mead Johnson Nutritionals, traveling often for his job.

In his professional life, Joe served as president of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association and the Healthcare Exhibitors Association. He was an active member of his parish community at Christ the King, taking on roles ranging from lector, extraordinary minister of communion, president of the school PTA and altar server at funerals. He spent many years in the happy company of the Monday crew who counted offertory funds. In the community, Joe supported the Evansville Philharmonic and St Vincent de Paul by serving on their boards. He was an avid tennis player, a world traveler and he loved to sail. His family and community benefitted from his talent for building.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Norbert Bernard Honnigford and Mary Louise (Steckler) Honnigford, and his eldest son Dr. Joseph Basil Honnigford, Jr. He is survived by his wife Clara "Lou" Louise (Sasse) Honnigford; children Sara (Duane) Lawrence of Sussex, England and Dr. John (Jody) Honnigford of Evansville; and three siblings Mary (Robert) Shaul of Mooresville, North Carolina, David (Jeannette) Honnigford of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Madeline Roe of Evansville; and seven grandchildren Brennan, Connor, Shea, and Kelton Lawrence and Gabrielle, Nicholas, and Benjamin Honnigford. Visitation will be at Ziemer Funeral Home East Sunday, December 1st from 2-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 2, at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Alex Zenthoefer and Father Ted Tempel officiating.

Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery to follow.
