Moll, William G.
William G. Moll, age 88, of Southport, passed away on March 23, 2013. Born in Bridgeport on September 23, 1924, "Bill" was the son of the late William and Amelia Moll. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Doris Bonney Moll. Raised in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, Bill graduated from Bassick High School in 1942 and received a Bachelor's Degree in Business from the University of Connecticut in 1949. After his freshman year at UCONN he left to join the United States Navy in the South Pacific in World War II as a Quartermaster Second Class aboard the destroyer-escort, John C. Butler. He received the Presidential Unit Citation, the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, and the Victory Medal. He returned to UCONN in 1946 to complete his education. Bill began his career in marketing with the Atlantic Richfield Company, before joining the Bonney Electric Company in Fairfield as Vice-President and co-owner, where he worked the remainder of his career until his retirement in 1988. Bill is survived by his three children, Bill and his wife, Lisa, of Rye, New Hampshire, Amy Newman of Arlington, Virginia, Kristen Johnson and her husband, Rick of Monroe, Connecticut, his 9 grandchildren; John, Kristen, Amelia, and Faith Moll, William and Thomas Newman, and Christopher, Kelsey, and James Johnson, and his brother, Robert, of Fairfield. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Tom Newman. Bill was an extremely devoted, loving, and caring husband, father, and grandfather. To his children and grandchildren, he was a constant mentor, role model, and hero. To his wife, Doris, who he married in 1949, he was a loving, supportive husband, constant companion, and best friend. An avid sports fan and athlete, Bill played football and basketball at Bassick High School and played football at the University of Connecticut, where he was captain of the team his senior year. He was drafted to play for the New York Giants in 1947. He also loved watching and following his children and grandchildren as they pursued their sports passions. As the UCONN basketball and football programs grew and became a staple on prime-time TV, Bill became an avid fan. He also enjoyed golfing with his wife, Doris, skiing with his family, woodworking and refinishing antique furniture. Liturgy of the Hours will be celebrated Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. Interment with military honors will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. You and your wife were lovely neighbors near us in Southport. Your home and yard were always immaculate and well cared for and we used to pass each other walking each day. Avid walkers were you and your wife. Bonney Electric was a wonderful cornerstone business for Fairfield ofr many years as were the helpful personnel. It is still missed. Our prayers are with your family at this quiet time.
