Gaughan, John J, Sr.
John J. Gaughan, Sr., age 79, of Fairfield, beloved husband of 57 years of Ann Walsh Gaughan, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013 at St. Vincent's Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Scranton, PA, the son of the late John J. and Margaret Gaughan, he had been a Fairfield resident since 1957. Mr. Gaughan served in the U.S. Navy onboard the USS Hornet (CVA-12) during the Korean War. He was employed for many years at Voltax, Inc. rising to the position of Vice President. He later retired from Hicks and Otis in Norwalk. Mr. Gaughan was a member for many years of the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield where he enjoyed many happy times with family and friends. Survivors in addition to his wife Ann include two beloved daughters, Kathleen Sweeney and her husband Mike of Indianapolis, IN and Ann Michek and her husband Gary of Shelton; five cherished grandchildren, Tim (Brandi) Sweeney, Katie (Jason) Trennepohl, John J. Gaughan, III, Kenneth (Sarah) Michek and Shannon Gaughan and her fiancé Jeff Foreman; three beloved great-grandchildren; John J. Gaughan, IV, Emma Sweeney and Kaylee Trennepohl. He was predeceased by two sons, John J. Gaughan, Jr., and just recently on February 20, 2013, by Daniel P. Gaughan of Greenwood, IN. Friends may greet the family on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. Interment will be private.
