Rogers, Evelyn M.
Age 84, of Stratford, died on Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Vincent Medical Center. She was the widow of Daniel C. Rogers. Mrs. Rogers was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Walter and Corinne Plunkett and was raised in New York City. She graduated from Long Island University with a degree in English and American Literature. Mrs. Rogers was able to pay her way through college by working as a secretary in the dean's office. After college, she had worked as a grammar school teacher. Once married, she dedicated herself to raising her family and providing her sons with their educations. She and her husband had lived at Lake Forest, Bridgeport prior to moving to Oronoque Village. She had been the editor of the Lake Forest newspaper. Mrs. Rogers loved gardening and volunteer work. She truly enjoyed her friends and playing cards at Oronoque with the girls. Survivors include two beloved sons and their wives, Michael and Cathy Rogers of Southington and Paul and Cindy Rogers of Southwick, Massachusetts; two grandsons, Jesse and David Rogers; two sisters, Betty Magaro of Atlanta, Georgia and Alice Brenner of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Christopher Rogers. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 11 am at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. Friends may call from 10 am until time of service.
