Aida Lopes Cardozo
1929-2022
Aida Lopes Cardozo, age 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on January 16, 2022. She was born in 1929 in Cutelo, on the island of Fogo, Cabo Verde. She emigrated to the USA in 1960 accompanied by six of her young children. Three more children were born in the US and Aida spent her time raising all of them to be respectful and giving members of the Bridgeport, CT community. In addition to raising her nine children, Aida worked at the Acme Shears Company on the East Side of Bridgeport before she started work at St. Vincent's Hospital as a nurse's aide for many years. Upon retirement Aida and her husband Manuel moved to the Cape Cod, Massachusetts area where he had been born. They lived there for more than 30 years and always welcomed family, friends and anyone who entered their home. Aida is survived by her husband of 71 years, Manuel B. Cardozo, nine children, twenty-six grand and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Known for her giving heart, infectious smile, great storytelling, and excellent cooking, she will be missed by her loving family and many friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Jude Church, Monroe with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. Dearest Maggie and family,
I learned just today of the passing of your mom, a woman whom I would have loved to have known. May all the love she spread in her long life live on in you each and may the loss be buffered by the clear knowledge of her life of goodness and service.
