POLLARD Catherine "Kay" Pollard, age 88, of Largo, Fla. and previously of Milford, died on Monday, December 11, 2006 at Largo Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late John Pollard. Kay was born on June 25, 1918 in Hartford to the late Louis and Pearl (Buchanan) Papineau. Before retiring, she was a music teacher for the Orange School System for 25 years and a self employed music teacher. A very active member of the community, she was a volunteer firefighter for Fire Dept. 1 in Milford and played taps for them. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Milford and Largo, DAV Ladies Auxiliary, serving as past commander and the Army Navy Union in Largo. Kay will be remembered for being the first women Boy Scout master in the U.S. and changing the participation of women in scouting. Kay is survived by her devoted children, Ruth Ann Wellington of Largo, Fla., Laura Oliver of Shelton and Everett T. Pollard of West Haven; sisters, Margaret Dunn of Beacon Falls and Edna Woods of Naugatuck; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Calling hours are Sunday, December 17, 2006 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad Street, Milford. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 18 at 9 a.m. in the funeral home.
