Edward W. Wilson, Sr.
Edward W. Wilson, Sr., age 85, of Shelton, entered into his eternal rest on Monday April 2, 2018 in the Griffin Hospital Derby surrounded by his loving family. Ed is the devoted husband of 56 years to Christa (Hohrein) Wilson. He was born in Derby on Oct. 6, 1932 son of the late Frederick J. and Amanda (Clauss) Wilson and has been a lifelong Shelton resident.
Ed graduated Shelton High School Class of 1950 and attended RPI. He began a long career with the Apex Tool and Cutter Company, starting in the sales department, then to the computer department, and his final promotion to being named the president of the company. He joined the Shelton Emergency Fire Department in 1950 and then became a member of the Echo Hose Hook and Ladder Company # 1. He attended New Haven and University of Maryland Fire Schools. Ed became Captain of the Echo Hose Hook and Ladder and Captain of the Echo Ambulance Corp in 1960. He went on to become the third Assistant Fire Chief of Shelton. Ed received many honors including being awarded the Jaycee Man of the Year in 1963, the Distinguished Service Award by the Shelton Junior Chamber of Commerce for Outstanding Community Service a two time chairman of the Downtown Committee, Echo Hose Fire Department Lifetime Honor Roll in 1993 and Echo Hose Fifty Year Badge. He was also a member of the Muscular Dystrophy Drive, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Riverside Cemetery Board of Directors, Fairfield County Fire Chiefs, and a former member of the State Firemen's Association. He is the beloved father of Edward W. Wilson, Jr., Stephen R. Wilson and his wife Joann, and Jennifer S. Wilson, the cherished grandfather of Thomas Wilson and also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Frederick J. Wilson, and his sister Dorothy Traester. Friends may greet his family on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Riverview Funeral Home 390 River Road Shelton. On Friday his funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. His burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery Shelton.
