Lester Stanley Szube
Lester Stanley Szube closed his eyes for eternal rest on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Born in Warsaw, Poland on July 26, 1929, the beloved son of the late Stanislaw and Helena (Kaminska) Szube. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased in death by his sister Danusia Sikorska of Warsaw, Poland and was the loving father of the late Theresa Jean Szube of Bridgeport, CT. Lester lived with his family in Shelton, CT for over 25 years. He was a parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Bridgeport, CT and St. Lawrence Church in Shelton, CT. Lester was an extremely hard worker with a tremendous work ethic who held many factory jobs over the years. He often worked two full-time jobs at once in order to provide for his family. He retired from Jenkins Brothers Valves with 30 years of dedicated service. Lester was a survivor of Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany where he was a Prisoner of War in 1945 when he was only 15 years old. He worked for the U.S. Army from 1945-1949 guarding German P.O.W.'s in Poland. When Poland was liberated in 1949 he immigrated to Bridgehampton, L.I. where he worked on a potato farm to earn money. He moved to Bridgeport, CT in 1950 and later lived in Trumbull, CT for 30 years. Lester loved to work outside and enjoyed taking care of his garden, especially his tomato plants. Polka music was his passion and his favorite past-times included traveling around the country going to Polka dances. He spent many happy summers dancing with his family and friends in Wildwood, NJ at 'Polka Spree By The Sea'. He loved going to Mohegan Sun for the slot machines and every day he played the CT Lotto Play 3. Lester is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dolores Pieniawski/Pinosky Szube, daughter Patricia Szube of Dartmouth, MA, daughter, Christine Szube Turecek and her husband Edward of Shelton, CT. His pride and joys were his granddaughters, Kristen Hewig Miceli and her husband, Kevin and Michelle Hewig of Shelton, CT and Tessa Belkin of Dartmouth, MA. He took great delight in his three great grandchildren, Morgan, Caleb and Taylor Miceli of Shelton, CT. Lester is also survived by his sister, Marysia Urbanska, niece Kamila Mazurkiewicz and her family in Warsaw, Poland; special friends, Terry Sissick, the Czerniawski family, and beloved caretaker, Wiesia Leszczynski.
Calling hours will take place on Friday April 13, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Commerce Hill Radozycki Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. Bridgeport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael the Archangel Church, Bridgeport followed by interment in St. Michael Cemetery Stratford.
