Obituary Condolences

Lois Johnson Hughes
Lois Christine Johnson Hughes, born and raised in Fairfield County, CT passed away Tuesday morning, April 3, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Though she had been ill for some months, her death was unexpected. She was 61 years old.
Lois was born at Bridgeport Hospital and grew up in Easton. Her family were members of Salem Lutheran Church in Bridgeport. She attended Helen Keller School, and then Joel Barlow High School. She graduated from the Ethel Walker School. She received her BA from Connecticut College and a Masters in Child Development from Columbia University.
She was the Administrative Coordinator for the Shelton Office of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services New England Properties. She loved her job and her co-workers as family.
She was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Wahlstrom Foundation, and on the Selection Committee of the Magnus Wahlstrom Leadership Award Fund at the Fairfield County Community Foundation. She was also Director of the Lois J. Hughes and Aimé Ontario Fraser Charitable Trust, through which she rejoiced in giving to a variety of humanitarian organizations worldwide.
Lois and her friend Vikki Cryder co-authored A Little Book About Something Much Bigger: The Gift of a Spiritual Practice, an e-book published in 2012.
Lois' many friends remember her warm smile, kind heart, joyful sense of humor, and loving nature. She gave freely of her many gifts to all she met. She had an Etsy shop, where she sold simple jewelry, paper crafts, sewn pouches and bags, as well as vintage postcards. She enjoyed watching game shows on TV, and delighted in the silliness of shows like America's Got Talent. She puzzled at the comfort she enjoyed watching SVU. Though she freely acknowledged she had no talent, she loved singing her pets to sleep, and delighted in singing Karaoke. She always got big rounds of applause simply because she was so bad and yet so joyful about the performance. She was a crowd favorite.
Lois is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Magnus and Agnes Wahlstrom; her paternal grandparents, Arvid and Florence Johnson; and her younger brother, Roy D. Johnson.
She is survived by her partner and wife of 30 years, Aimé Fraser of Shelton; her daughter Becca Hughes (Donnie Griffin) of Shelton; her son, Justin Hughes (Ade) and her grandson, Sidney Owen Hughes all of Jakarta, Indonesia; her mother Eleonora McCabe (Robert) of Vero Beach, Florida; her father Roy A.Johnson (Nancy) of Vero Beach, Florida; her brother; Bruce R. Johnson (Patti) of Rye, New Hampshire; and her uncle, Robert A. Johnson of Milford.
If a donation is desired, it should be sent to The Cambodian Children's Fund (www.cambodianchildrensfund.org), a worthy organization through which Lois sponsored Om Puthyka with whom she corresponded. She paid close attention to Puthyka, whom she watched transform from a poverty-stricken child into an educated and successful young woman.
Visitation hours are Tuesday, April 10 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Ave, Bridgeport CT. A private burial service will be held the next day, with interment at Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport.
