Lucy V. Katz, 70, of Easton passed away at her home on Saturday morning, Feb.9. Lucy was the loving wife of Alan Katz for 47 years and the devoted mother of Laura Katz of Milford, CT and Douglas Katz of Needham, MA, mother-in-law of Stephen Schmidt and Debbie Shapiro Katz and doting grandmother of Owen and Ginger Schmidt of Milford and Lilly and Emmett Katz of Needham, MA. Lucy was a graduate of Woodmere Academy in Woodmere, NY, Smith College and New York University School of Law. After graduation from law school she worked for the Center for Public Policy and Law at Columbia University and then as an attorney for Koskoff, Koskoff and Bieder in Bridgeport, CT. From 1983 to 2008 she was professor of Business Law at the Dolan School of Business at Fairfield University. A very popular teacher, Lucy was a prolific scholar. She had articles published in many journals including the National Law Journal, the Journal of Contemporary Law and the American Business Law Journal, among others. She was both a well-respected and beloved colleague at Fairfield, was one of the founders of the Women's Studies Program and served as Chair of the Management Department in the School of Business. In recognition of her many accomplishments, she was named as the first Robert C. Wright Chair in Business Law, Ethics and Dispute Resolution , in 2005. Lucy was very active in community affairs, serving on the Board of the Mercy Learning Center and in a wide variety of positions for the Congregation for Humanistic Judaism of Fairfield County. She was recently given the "Menschlichkeit Award" for her many activities for the Congregation. She had recently been very active in a number of program associated with the "Tent of Abraham" activities in Fairfield County. A memorial service was held in her honor on Tuesday, February 12 at The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT.
