Mildred Virginia Doran
Mildred Virginia Swanson Doran, age 87, of Stratford, went home peacefully to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 9, 2018. She was born in New Britain, CT and married William Doran on February 28, 1953. They lived in Providence, RI for a short time but later moved to Stratford, CT when her husband became employed at Sikorsky. Mildred was a member of Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Trumbull, and years later became a member of White Oak Baptist Church in Stratford. Mildred played the organ and piano and was active with the music ministries; she also substituted as an organist in local fundamental churches when needed. Mildred also provided accompanying music and sang for her husband's chalk talk ministry in her early years. Mildred was active as a Sunday School teacher, and Vacation Bible School worker, plus teaching at a Ladies Bible class in later years. Mildred worked at the Hartford Accident and Indemnity Co before marriage. Later as the children grew up, she worked for a temporary agency and then was employed as a secretary at the Jelliff Corporation in Southport, CT in 1975 until retirement in 1995. Her husband, Bill, predeceased her in March 2013. She is survived by son, Timothy Doran of Hacienda Heights, CA, daughter and son-in-law Shirley and Stephen Sellevaag of Shelton, CT, and son and daughter-in-law Paul and Carilyn Doran of Jamestown, NY. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, interment will follow. Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions in Mildred's memory to: "Mission Project India."
