Vin is also survived by his sister-in-law Patricia Delano of Stratford, a niece Marguerite Gunn and nephews Thomas and Timothy Duffy. He is predeceased by his sister Marguerite Carissimi Duffy Medve, brothers and sisters in law Tony, Bill, Mary and Rachel Delano.
Vin was born on December 10th, 1925, the son of Louis and Theresa Carissimi of Fairfield. He was a 1943 graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School and a veteran of the US Army Air Forces during WWII. After his discharge in 1945, he attended college at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he was elected to both Pi Tau Sigma and Sigma XI honorary academic societies. He graduated in 1949 and subsequently began his engineering career at the Manning, Maxwell & Moore Company where he met his future wife Ann. They were married in 1951.
Vin continued in his profession at the Bryant Electric Company and the Hubbell Corporation where he was Vice President of Research and Development. He served on several code panels of the National Electrical Code, Underwriters Laboratories Safety Councils and the American Boat and Yacht Council. Vin was the recipient of the prestigious Kite and Key award from the National Electrical Manufacturers Association in recognition of his many significant contributions to national electrical standards and electrical safety, including his establishment of lifesaving electrical safety standards that are still used in hospitals today. During his lifetime, he was the holder of twenty four U.S. patents.
Vin enjoyed hunting, fishing and model railroading with his sons and grandchildren, and was an avid tennis player until the age of 82. He and Ann were dedicated gardeners and took great pride in the elaborate flower gardens that adorned their yard each summer.
He was devoted to his family and enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered as an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be sadly missed by all.
Friends may attend a Mass of Christian Burial at the St. Pius X Catholic Church in Fairfield on Saturday, September 22 at 10:30 a.m. Internment will take place at the St. Thomas Cemetery in a private ceremony.
