Walter Joseph Zackrison passed away peacefully on July 29, 2018. He was a resident of Venice, FL where he lived since 1993. Walter, the son of Eric and Loretta Zackrison, was born May 5, 1932 in Bridgeport, CT. He grew up in Easton, CT, and was a member of Fairfield University's graduating class of 1954.
After serving in the US Army from 1956-58, Walter joined the Upjohn Company where he served in Marketing. He later joined the NY State Medical Society where he served in public relations, and then the Paper Management Association in Advertising and Marketing.
In 1968, Walter founded Zackrison Associates, an executive search firm based in Fairfield, CT, with offices throughout the state, where he served as President and CEO for 30 years.
Walter was very active in the Fairfield Community, as well as a trusted member of the Fairfield University community where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fairfield University fellows, and was the founder of the NY area alumni association. He was awarded the Alumnus of the Year award in 1975.
Walter was very passionate about family, golf, skiing and music. He was a member of the Quechee Club of VT where he spent many days on the beautiful slopes of VT, was President of Fairfield's Patterson Club Board of Directors from 1977-78, and always loved singing with the Swedish North Star Singers.
Walter's memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 30 years, Betsy, of Venice, FL, his brother Art Zackrison of SC, and his children and grandchildren who meant the world to him. Walter's four beloved children include: Mary Otocka and her husband Drew of Charleston, SC, Maura Mula and her husband Mark of Westport, CT, Walter Zackrison Jr. and his wife Lucimar of Fairfield, CT and Annie Kleinhenz and her husband Mark, of Madison, CT. Additionally, Walter was extremely close with his grandchildren Katherine and Alexandra Yuditski, Monica and Matt Mula, Jack and Will Kleinhenz, as well as his two step children, Jennifer and Colin McQuaid.
A memorial service celebrating Walter's life will be held Saturday August 18th at Fairfield University's Egan Chapel at 10 a.m. Walter's service will be preceded by a welcoming reception at the Chapel at 8:30 a.m. Following the memorial mass, Walter will be buried in South Salem, NY.
