Carl Matthews Obituary
Carl Raymond Matthews Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, andbrother, age 65, of Monroe, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Carl was born June 14, 1947, in Stamford, to Joseph and Helen Markovich.Hewas a graduate of Stamford High School and Sacred Heart University, and worked at Network Synergy in Trumbull.
Carlwas the loving husband of Patricia Schroeder Matthews, whom he wed on May 2nd, 1971.He is survived by his daughter Trisha and her husband Joseph Orlando, son Carl Jr. and his wife Lele, son David,daughter Laura, as well as four loving grandsons, Joseph Orlando Jr., Kyle Orlando, Tyler Matthews and Dylan Matthews.
Carl is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Karen and Atherton Lowry, his sister Jane Hollis, and his brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Faith Markovich, and many nephews, nieces and cousins.He alsoloved and was loved by many friends and co-workers.
Carl adored his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He also loved the simple company and enjoyment of conversing with the many who were a part of his life. His hobbies included spending time outdoors and working on cars. He will be remembered for his friendly personality, good humor and smile. He will also be remembered for his ability to fix anything and his willingness to help anyone at anytime, whilenever expecting anything in return.
Calling hours are Friday August 24, from 4pm-8pm at the Spadaccino & Gallagher funeral home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 10am atSt. StephensChurch, 6948 Main Street,Trumbull. Carl, Mr. Matthews, you always called me "your other daughter" and I always felt that way, made me feel like the luckiest person in the world to really be accepted and treated like one of the family. The memories made - from soccer games, to music festivals, to gatherings, to church on Sunday .... they're locked in, I'm so grateful for them. I love and miss you! Thank you.

Although I have never met Carl my daughter Brianne has spoken from her heart to me about what a good person he was. He welcomed her with open arms as a new friend to the family.I am grateful for the brief time she was given to know him. My prayers and sympathy are with his family.

Carl was always a tremendous help when he came to answer a service call at one of the Fairfield Public Schools. He was very professional, knowledgable and fun to work with. I always learned something from him each time he was there to troubleshoot. LynnM

From the moment we first moved into our new home next door to the Matthews family, we knew that Carl was the main man. He was the rock in the neighborhood who helped everyone around their yards but also enjoyed conversing about anything and everything. We called him "the mayor" because he was the most important person in the neighborhood. We are going to miss his smile, sense of humor, helping hand and good company. Jay will forever miss cracking a cold one with Carl, no one can replace such a wonderful neighbor. We feel fortunate that, even though for a short time, we got to know Carl Matthews. The Matthews Family is the most loving around. Ever since I met Mr. Matthews, when I was 5 years old, and played for 'the Starfires,' the AYSO soccer team he coached, he always took me in, like I was part of the family. Our hearts go out to all at this most difficult time. Carl was such a wonderful person. I was doing some work on my roof when I received the phone call regarding Carl's passing. At that moment it vividly occurred to me that if I needed help with this task Carl would be the first person to rush to my aid. He was always willing to put others before himself and open to giving his precious time to make life easier for his friends and family.
