Toplansky, Florence E.
Florence Elizabeth (Bump) Toplansky, age 98, of Trumbull, died on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at St. Vincent Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the widow of Michael Toplansky.
Mrs. Toplansky was born in Bozeman, Montana to the late Lacy Wheaton and M. Kathleen Edmunds Bump. She was raised in Vermont where she graduated from Green Mountain Junior College in 1934 and earned her a bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of Vermont in 1936. Mrs. Toplansky taught high school Latin briefly after college. She moved to Bridgeport during World War II to assist with the war effort by gaining employment at General Electric Co. and Remington Arms. After her marriage, Mrs. Toplansky raised her family in Bridgeport and returned to work at the age of 62 as a library assistant with the City of Bridgeport.
Mrs. Toplansky was an avid reader her whole life. She enjoyed gardening and indulging her beloved pets, including her current cat, Fur"B".
Survivors include three beloved children, F. Karen Ormiston of Stratford, Janet M. Toplansky of Trumbull and Michael J. Toplansky of Trumbull; grandson, J. Cameron Ormiston of Stratford; one sister, Barbara Helen Eniti of East Montpelier, VT; special friends, Jonathan R. Hodge, Bernie and Marianne Skopp; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by siblings, Ruth Eleanor Noel, Harriet Frances Bump and Leonard Edmunds Bump; and her son-in-law, James Ormiston, Jr.
The family would like to thank her homecare professionals, Aldene and Latisha, her nurse, Lill and the nurses at St. Vincent Medical Center for the wonderful care that their mother received. All services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
