Richard Allen Obituary

Allen, Richard S.
Richard Stapleton Allen, age 70, of Fairfield died peacefully at Yale New Haven Hospital on November 5, 2013 after a brief illness. A life long Fairfield resident, he was born December 28, 1942 to the late Judge William E. Allen Jr. and Dorothea Devitt. A graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, he served in the National Guard and was initially employed as a computer specialist for the James River Corporation. When this company moved its operations to Virginia he chose to remain close to family in Fairfield. He was currently employed by Condenser & Heat Exchanger Services of Orange, Ct. He is survived by his four children and three grandchildren. Brian Stapleton Allen and his wife, Michele, and their children Drew and Shannon of Cheshire, Ct., Kevin Conlin Allen, James Matthew Allen and Katherine Elizabeth (Katie) Allen and her son Devitt, of Fairfield, Ct. His three brothers William E. Allen, III and Peter David Allen of Fairfield, Ct. and Thomas Devitt Allen of Marathon, Florida. He is also survived by his beloved kinfolk cousin, Cele Doyle of Lynchburg, VA. He will be fondly remembered as a kind and affable man, a loving father, grandfather and brother. He delighted in the time he spent with his children and grandchildren, his routine Sunday trips to Cheshire, his Monday evening Bocce with friends and, in general, a life surrounded by family and friends. Friends may call on Friday from 4-7PM in the Spear - Miller Funeral Home 39 South Benson Rd. Fairfield. Funeral Services and Interment will be private. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the Yale New Haven Hospital Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit for their kindness and compassionate care during his hospitalization. The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Richard be made to the Boston Children's Hospital 300 Longwood Ave. Boston, MA. 02115 or on line at giving.childrenshospital.org

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. Have hope in tomorrow, have faith in the everlasting, and take comfort in the love of friends and family. He is not alone...and neither are you. With all our love to Brian, Kevin, James, Katie and Devitt.
