John Joseph McFarland, Jr., age 81, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Carolyn McFarland, passed away suddenly July 7, 2015. John was born in Bridgeport on December 15, 1933 to the late John Joseph McFarland & Helen Flannery McFarland. John was a 1951 graduate of Fairfield College Prepatory School and attended Fairfield University before serving in the U.S. Army for two years. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. In his retirement, John found pleasure supporting his family's events. John was a loving husband, father & grandfather who said his children and grandchildren were the "jewels in his life". He cherished his pets and had a special way with all animals. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. He is predeceased by his sister Joan McFarland. In addition to his loving wife of 55 years Carolyn, John leaves behind his four children & their spouses, Susan Lewicki and her husband James Lewicki of Trumbull; Karen Webb and her husband William Webb, Jr. of Shelton; John McFarland III & his wife Norma McFarland of Monroe; Bridget Healey and her husband Andrew Healey of Trumbull and eight grandchildren, Will & Justin Webb; Kelly, Kenzie, Megan & Abby McFarland; Gwenevere & Derek Healey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 13, 2015 at 9:00 am at Holy Family Church, Fairfield . Relatives and friends may call on Sunday 4-8pm. at Spear- Miller Funeral Home 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
