Robert Butler Obituary
Robert M. Butler, age 84 of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Marianne (Schick) Butler, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017 with his family by his side. Born in Bridgeport, son of the late Morton and Mildred Butler, he had been a Fairfield resident since 1945. He graduated from Nathan Hale Elementary School, Suffield Academy and received a BS in Business Administration from Boston University. Mr. Butler owned and operated the Butler Business School in Bridgeport, a successful third generation business retiring as President. Bob was a longtime active member of Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men's Club, the Church Board and usher. He loved boating and was a member for many years of the Black Rock Yacht Club. In his spare time, he loved tennis and skiing. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and his cherished grandchildren. Two brothers-in-law, Jack Weppel and George Schick and two nephews, Thomas Weppel and Ronald Schick, predeceased him. Survivors include two beloved daughters, Kimberly B. Szabo and her husband Zoltan of Trumbull and Laura B. Dowling and her husband Gregory of Monroe; four loving grandchildren, Kristine and Alexandra Szabo and Cole and Gavin Dowling; a sister, Judy Weppel of Brentwood, TN; two nieces, Susan Weppel Frizsell of TN and Jeanette Waldman of NJ. A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church, 1089 Fairfield Woods Rd., with the Rev. Kun Sam Cho officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489. Dear Butler Family,
I was so sorry to learn of your Dad's passing (on vacation then) because I always hoped to see him one more time. It was a great era working those 7 years with he and Mrs. Butler. I am thankful for his guidance during my years as Director of Admissions and Placement. Also, they were my parents age and looked out for me. Godspeed Mr. Butler, hope you and Marianne are happy watching beloved grandchildren from above.

Jane & Hugh Hoadley with deepest sympathy. We knew Bob for at least 50 years. We enjoyed skiing with Bob and Maryanne to our Jenny Lake New York home, dinning at The Patterson Club, Gourmet Group, Black Rock Yacht Club.

My deepest condolences to your family. My prayers and thoughts are with you at this time. I knew Mr. Butler through Butler Business School. It was an honor to carry on the Butler Family legacy. We enjoyed Mr. Butler's visits to the school. It was easy to see the pride he carried for the school. The students and faculty enjoyed meeting him. The history of the school was something we always spoke of. He will be remembered by thousands of students who graduated from Butler Business School. What an accomplishment!
