Harvey R. Hicks, Sr., 93, of Grant Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Landsun Home.
There will be no visitation, cremation will take place. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2015, 10:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Boyd officiating. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Harvey R. Hicks, Sr. was born April 20, 1922 in Balmorhea, Texas to Henry Colison and Eunice Mae (Wilson) Hicks. He graduated from Colorado City High School. Harvey served his country in the US Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged. He graduated from Texas Tech in 1947 and moved to Carlsbad where he began working at IMC. Harvey married Wynola Ruth Walker on November 19, 1950 here in Carlsbad. He took early retirement with IMC after 35 years of service and retired as Manager of Administrative services. After retirement Harvey devoted himself to many civil services and projects such as American Contract Bridge League, Keep Carlsbad Beautiful, Carlsbad Foundation Board, SE New Mexico Historical Society, Carlsbad Museum Board, Carlsbad Sportsman Club and Carlsbad Archeological Society. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, collecting arrowheads, traveling and playing bridge. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Jack Hicks, Bill Hicks and Charlie Hicks; sister, Matalie "Lee" Britton.
Survivors are his wife, Wynola "Wallie" Hicks of Carlsbad, NM; son, Harvey Hicks, Jr. and wife, Carol of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Cheryl Beck and husband, Gary of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren: Jordan Hicks, Courtney Beck and several nieces and nephews.
