Evaristo "“Lito”" Navarrete Obituary
Evaristo "Lito" Navarrete, 86, of Derrick Road, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski, OFM, officiating. Interment will follow at the Loving Cemetery. Vigil will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at San Jose Catholic Church. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at West Funeral Home. Services are entrusted to West Funeral Home. Evaristo Navarrete was born in Malaga, N.M., Sept. 11, 1927, to Bentura and Benedita (Carrasco) Navarrete.
Lito was raised on the family farm, where he began farming at the age of 8. He farmed for many years then, in 1972, went to work for Eddy County as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement.
He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church but enjoyed every Catholic church he could visit. He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Otis Fire Department.
Lito enjoyed taking rides to Barstow, Texas, where he never forgot to remind his family about how he went to school in a little school house that he loved so much. He was a very loving and caring father, grandfather, uncle and brother.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son and daughter, Francisco and India Navarrete; as well as his parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
Lito is survived by his wife of 64 years, Juanita (Garcia) Navarrete; daughters: Anita and husband, Rudy Dominguez, Minnie and Ricky Hernandez, Delia Navarrete, Lorina Calderon and Norma Navarrete; son, Davy and wife, Tina Hinojos; brothers: Pole and Mike Navarrete; sister, Elisa "Licha" Lopez; 19 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Rudy Dominguez Jr., Ricky and Anthony Hernandez, Francisco Calderon, Honorio Duran Jr., John E. Vasquez Jr., Jared L. and Kelly E. Franco and Davy Hinojos. Honorary pallbearers are Pole and Mike Navarrete.
