Alfonso B. "Poncho" Molinar, 86, of Molinar Road, Carlsbad, N.M., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at Lakeview Christian Home. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today (Sept. 24) at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Chaplain Michael Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, N.M. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Alfonso Burgess Molinar was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Terlingua, Texas, to Paz and Maria (Burgess) Molinar. He attended a one room school house in Texas. Alfonso went to work at the age of 16. He married Teresa Villanueva on Dec. 7, 1945, in Ft. Davis, Texas. Alfonso was a cement finisher and heavy equipment operator. He worked for Eddy County many years, where he retired in 1983. Alfonso enjoyed his hunting and camping trips. He also enjoyed cooking turkey and dressing and chile rellenos. Alfonso loved his horses, but he especially loved spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Teresa Molinar; son, Adan Molinar; and grandson, Alan Molinar.
Survivors are six children: Antonio Molinar and wife, Delma of Alpine, Texas, Rita Ramirez and husband, David of El Paso, Texas, Alfonso Molinar Jr. and wife, Connie of Carlsbad, N.M., Eva Hinijos and husband, Aldofo of Carlsbad, N.M., Emma Irizarry and husband, Ruben of Carlsbad, N.M., and Alva Yochum of Carlsbad, N.M.; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ernestina Hernandez and husband, Jesus of Devine, Texas.
Pallbearers will be John Vasquez, Debbie Walker, Jimmy Vasquez, Bernie Morales, Travis Yochum and Jonathan Uranga. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
