Benigno Romero Obituary
Benigno Romero, 68, of Carlsbad, NM died Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at his home. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Muffley Funeral Home, 1430 Thornton. A rosary will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 108 Davis Street, Clovis, NM. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Christopher Martinez officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Casey Granger, Ricky Chavez, Bobby Montoya, Freddy Montoya, Johnny Fierro, Phillip Duran, and Anthony Pena will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Benigno was born September 4, 1950 in Clovis, NM to Leopoldo "Polo" Romero and Carmen Ortiz Romero. He referred to himself as "Crazy Cowboy". Benigno was an Army Sergeant in the Vietnam War. During his service he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge, Expert Badge, Vietnam Service and Campaign Medal and Army Occupation Medal. He enjoyed hunting, racing horses, horse riding, rolling dice, and watching old western movies. Benigno loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include: his three children; Melecia (Rudy) Lucero of Las Cruces, NM, Esperanza Aragon of Clovis, NM, and Gabriel (Rebecca) Romero of Clovis, NM, ex-wife and mother to his children; Theresa Casarez of Clovis, NM, 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers; Arthur (Diane) Romero, and Leo Romero of Clovis, NM, and four sisters; Katie (Eddie) Padilla, Yolanda (Santiago) Olivas, Lena (Ruben) Sandoval, and Jackie Romero (Sal Maestas) of Clovis, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents; Leopoldo and Carmen Romero, three brothers; Richard Romero, Billy Romero, and Gabriel Romero, two sons-in-law, Johnny J. Gutierrez II and George Aragon Jr., and grandson; William.
