Thursday, August 16, 2018 changed the lives of a very creative woman and her family and friends forever.
Katrina Marie Avitia was born on January 19, 1982 in Carlsbad, NM to Michael and Rita (Sanchez) Avitia. She grew up on Cedar Street in Loving, NM, along with 3 unforgettable siblings. When she turned eighteen she left to Portales, NM to further her education in teaching.
In 2004 Katrina moved to San Bernadino, CA to start a family where she gave birth to her first son, who was part of her everlasting pride and joy. She then returned to Loving, NM where she helped run her mother's restaurant for four years. Shortly after her return home she gave birth to another baby boy, the second half of her pride and joy. In 2014 she began her career as a teacher with Loving Municipal Schools and she loved every minute of it. Her sons were her life and her students gave her life.
Katrina enjoyed make-up, painting her nails whenever she could, Halloween and spending time with her sons and family. She also enjoyed being creative, at which she was very talented. Her gift of creativity was shared at school events, holiday decorations and gifts, handmade Halloween costumes, Valentine 's Day boxes for her boys and helping her mother with sales displays.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents and father Michael Avitia Sr.
Katrina is survived by her sons, Octaviano Elijah Luna and LeeAndro Omari Luna, mother Rita (Sanchez) Avitia and brother Ramon Avitia, all of Loving; brother Michael J. Avitia Jr. and wife Robin and their five children, all of Peyton, CO and sister Ciara Soto and husband Samuel Soto III of Carlsbad, NM.

Despite that we cannot wake every morning and expect her to be here, she will always be near. Katrina was an amazing mother, daughter, sister and auntie.
