Pedro Muñoz Sarabia Obituary
Pedro Muñoz Sarabia, born September 22, 1928 in Carlsbad, NM passed on August 30, 2018 at the age of 89 at his Carlsbad home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was father to four children: Kris, Brenda, Belinda and Pedro (Pete) Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrea Muñoz Sarabia and Juan Sarabia and his four siblings: Juan Sarabia, Jr., Luis Sarabia, Elvira Ortiz and Samuel Sarabia.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Erminia Rascon Sarabia, four children, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pedro was lovingly known to many as "Gramps" or "Tio". He was a beautiful Grandfather and Father and never failed to crack a joke.
Pete started as a Heavy Equipment Operator with the City of Carlsbad then worked his way up to Assistant Director of Public Works, retiring at the age of 59 after forty years of service. He then stayed busy with his striping business.
His hobbies included fishing, camping, taking long walks, sitting on the porch, cracking jokes and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed bike riding with his grandchildren. Pete was known to be quite the handy-man and he and his wife took great pleasure in decorating their home for the holidays.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at St. Edward Catholic Church. Father Pasala Hruday Kumar will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (new section). Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at West Funeral Home followed by a Prayer Vigil at 6 p.m. (Wed.) at St. Edward Catholic Church.
