Russell "Rusty" Winford Gaston passed away peacefully at his home on West Cherry Lane, on August 29, 2018 at the age of 77. Russell was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on February 15, 1941.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Robert T. "Bud" and Lois Gaston (Brunt) of Carlsbad and his siblings, Norma Sherrell, Bobby Gaston and Billy Wayne Gaston, all from Carlsbad.
He is survived by his children: Tina Swindell and husband Don, from Carlsbad, NM, and their child Austin Dulaney and wife Ella; Jennifer Pakenham and husband Kevin and their children Taylor, Maddie and Kailee from Pflugerville, TX; Angi Menell and husband Bryan, and their children Ethan and Hailey, from Austin, TX; Rusty Gaston, Jr. and wife Erin, and their children Rylan, Noah, Maya and Tristan from Kyle, TX. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Rusty loved playing Bingo and made many friends at the local bingo halls. He also loved Saturday night poker games, going to the mountains and eating at the Mayhill Café with Tina and Don, and also enjoyed breakfast at the Trinity with Tina on a weekly basis. He never lost his sense of humor, even at the very end he made people laugh. He also loved his beloved Yorkie, Lil' Rusty, better known as "little buddy". He served in the US Army from 1963-1971 and was discharged honorably as a Sergeant and was a proud Veteran.
Per his request, there will be no service and cremation has already taken place under the direction of West Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to Noah's Ark Animal Shelter as he loved animals and being a veterinarian was a dream of his. Condolences may be expressed at
