Winona Robbins Obituary
Winona Wilson Robbins was born at home in Elida, New Mexico on January 18, 1927 and passed peacefully in her sleep on May 3, 2018. She is survived by a sister, Nelma Stephens and a brother, Ivan (Skipper) Wilson of Portales, New Mexico and three children in Carlsbad: Nona Johnston, Marshall Robbins and Mary Robbins; 8 grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great-Granddaughter.
Winona met her late husband, Miles, on Halloween night 1947 while working as a nursing student and they were married in December of that year. Winona was a stay at home mother while her children were young. With her kids out of the nest, Winona returned to her dream of becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Lakeview Christian Home where her parents Jerry and Artie were cared for during their final days.
After retiring from nursing, she continued to care for elderly friends as needed and visited numerous shut-ins on a weekly basis, never forgetting how the visits to her patients at Lakeview raised their spirits. Her last visit to a shut-in was in the fall of 2017. Winona's desire to stay home in her declining years was facilitated by her children.
Family and friends are invited to stop by the Girl Scout hall on 409 S. Alameda on Sunday, May 20th between 1 and 3 PM to celebrate her life and say goodbye. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
