Max Hickman Obituary

Max Douglas "Doug" Hickman, 63, of Arcadia, died Monday, May 1, 2017, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Richard L. Piontkowski will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be in the Arcadia Cemetery in Arcadia.
Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday at the church, with a 7 p.m. vigil service.
Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is assisting the family.
Doug was born Sept. 21, 1953, at Ord, the son of Max Douglas and Miriam Jane (Kauff) Hickman, Sr.
He grew up on a farm south of Comstock. He began school at Comstock and then at Greeley Public School. He was a 1971 graduate of Greeley High School. He then attended UN-L and worked in Lincoln until he began farming with his father.
He was united in marriage to Michelle A. Holcomb June 13, 1981, at Arcadia. The couple first lived in Comstock until later moving to Arcadia. He worked for Baldwin Filters in Kearney until 2009, when he retired due to health reasons.
He was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church of Loup City.
When he was young he enjoyed motocross. He enjoyed sports over the years, whether following his children's sporting events, coaching American Legion Baseball at North Loup/Scotia. He was also was a huge Husker volleyball, baseball and football fan.
No one was a stranger to Doug. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and jokes.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle Hickman of Arcadia; children, Kelly and Scott Miller of Omaha, Kevin Hickman and Lizzie Gwilt of Omaha, and Karalie Hickman and Chris Grooms of North Loup; a grandson, Jude Miller of Omaha; sisters and brothers-in-law, Miriam McFadden of Waverly, Karen and Jim Day of Lincoln, Bonita and Rodney Kamarad of Comstock, and Dawn Whitlow of Lincoln; he is also survived by Michelle's siblings and spouses, Steve and Denise Holcomb of Arcadia, Kevin and Cheryl Holcomb of Loup City, Christine and Lenny Beall of North Platte, Terry and Stephanie Holcomb of Grand Island, Dianne Holcomb of Gibbon, Todd Holcomb of Cairo and Craig and Amy Holcomb of Gibbon; and Father- and Mother-in-law, Douglas and Donette Holcomb of Arcadia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Tim Holcomb.
