William Frazier Jr., 91, Cynthiana, died Monday, April 30, 2018 at UK-Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.
He was born in Harrison County, April 29, 1927 to the late Willie Frazier and Carrie Russ Lewis. He was a retired Ladish Company employee and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. William was a 1946 graduate of Banneker High School where he led the Coyotes in scoring and finished top three in the Bluegrass League tournament and the Kentucky High School Athletic League State Tournament, while earning Honorable Mention All-State honors. He would tell stories of his first-hand experiences prior to desegregation during Black History Month, these stories were published in the Cynthiana Democrat. William was a recipient of the Outstanding Citizen Award given by the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his longtime girlfriend, Barbara Craig; a son, Keith V. Frazier Sr.; and a grandson, Victor Michael Frazier.
He is survived by his son, Barry Douglas (Renita) Frazier, California; a daughter-in-law, Dixie Frazier, Cynthiana; five grandchildren, Derrick (Biljana) Frazier, Kevin (Saura) Frazier, Keith (Leah) Frazier Jr., Angela Frazier and Vanessa Frazier; and a host of great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 8 at 1 p.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
