Donna Dean (Crain) Tait(1931 - 2014)

Donna Dean Tait, 83, of Aztec, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014, in Aztec. She was born Jan. 17, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Okla., John and Mildred Crain.
We wanted to write a tribute to our loving mother and found it wasn't easy, she wasn't an ordinary mother. We thought about listing accomplishments and family which we will but again it just didn't seem to fit her. Work accomplishments. travels, charity work.... she did them all but they lust don't fit what we want to say.
The more we thought about it, two words kept coming to mind.... Beloved and Brave, very different words, one of which, you would associate with a Mother and one very different word.
Beloved - A Mother who stood by us no matter what we did. All the silly and thoughtless things we did as children would be forgiven and forgotten almost as soon as we messed up. As teenagers we were a handful and no matter what we did she forgave us and loved us unconditionally. Her loving and forgiving nature carried on into adulthood. She always worried about how we were doing, asked if we needed anything and gave us anything we asked if she thought she could help. As always she was there for us no matter what. We knew she was there for us and wouldn't judge, no matter what trivial or worse things we did, she was always there and loved us unconditionally. But, Brave is the word that made her special. She battled polio as a young woman and came through it with a crippled leg, but that never stopped her from doing anything she wanted. She protected three boys from a father who loved us but was ill himself. She supported two of us by selling her possessions when he left her with nothing and before she could find work. She always wanted to live in the New Mexico desert and despite being afflicted with post-polio syndrome she bought a place and moved in on her own. For the last ten years we have been trying to get her to move either closer to one of us or in with one of us. She fought fiercely to stay independent and on her own. Because of her insistence on staying independent and despite her physical disabilities she lived out her life in her home with her two adopted "fur children," Pumpkin and Bandit.
Love and admiration from her sons and family.
