Erika Rene Brown, 24, of Aztec, an unique beautiful soul was tragically taken from us on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014. Erika was a shy child that grew into a strong, confident, beautiful woman, full of creativity and dreams. She was incredibly kind, had a gentle spirit and was truly caring to every person she met. If she had enemies, you could count them on one hand with fingers left over. Losing her on this side of heaven will definitely leave a void in all of us who knew her. The advice that Erika would leave us all would be to live life fully, never stop learning, do yoga often, breathe, drink lots of pure water, don't eat meat or dairy. She would sigh and roll her eyes at anyone who would ask, "How do you get your protein and calcium?" Eat lots of organic whole fruits and vegetables, hug the people you love often and say, "I love you!" This soul, radiant with beauty and love, had an inner spirit filled with the peace and longing for heaven. Erika's favorite quote was "A butterfly knows not days, but moments, and that is enough." Though all we had with her in this life were just moments, she left such an impact on every one of us.
Erika is preceded in death by her father Eric Benét Brown and grandfather Robert Lee Nordman. She is survived by her Mother Renee Susanne Nordman-Brown-Mendias; brother Brian Keith Nordman (Monica); grandparents, Bennie and Janet Brown, Mary Nordman-Jacobson (Brad); uncles, Todd Brown, David Nordman (Judith) and Scott Nordman (Kay); cousins, Heather, Drew and Ethan Nordman and Rachel Nordman-Bishop (Bryan) and Sarah Nordman.
A celebration of life will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Animas Valley Community Church, 500 E. Sabena St., in Aztec.

I wish I'd had the chance to get to know Erika better. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. Erika had a beautiful smile that she showed to others, even strangers, without reserve. She was quiet & kind with a gently spirit. She will be missed greatly.

To be honest I'm not good at these things. Erika was shy and opened up when she got to know you. We always had English class together and our teachers would make sure I sat beside her because she would calm me down. I was rash and always on edge but being around her seemed help me through the class I hated most. She would help me when I couldn't understand something. We both loved to write and we often exchanged our stories. We would bounce ideas off of one another and laugh at the ideas that we both knew was utterly ridiculous. She helped change me and show me that life isn't always about the bad. That I didn't have to expect the worst in everyone. "Take it one day at a time." She use to say. After about two years of knowing her my favorite sayings became, "Live life to the fullest." and "Live the way you want to live not the way others thought you should." She touched my heart and soul since the day we met in middle school. I'll miss her always but she will always be in my heart. I can't believe she was taken away from us but I know she is enjoying her new adventure.

Dear Scott, Kay, Rachel, other Family and Friends,
We are so sad for your untimely loss. Our prayers for healing are with you all. Erika was always so kind and helpful at the store. Her presence is greatly missed. May you all rest in His peace, knowing that you will see her again in heaven. May the Lord surround you with His presence, and comfort and help you through your time of grieving, loss and sorrow.
