Joseph Tsosie Sr., 73, of Naschitti, our beloved cousin, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to join his family in Heaven on Friday, Oct. 22, 2010. He was born Nov. 1, 1936, in Rehoboth, to John and Helen Tsosie, into Nalaani (Sioux Clan) - part Bilaganna (Irish-White Man) for the Tabaaha (Water Edge Clan).
Joseph worked for Pacific Railroad in Nebraska, Wyoming and Washington state. He was well known for his excellent work in carpentry and creative stone masonry. He helped build chapter houses throughout the Navajo Reservation with his father and brother-in-law. He helped build the Window Rock police station, Shiprock Civic Center, Tohatchi Clinic, Navajo Housing, Naschitti Christian Reformed Church and road construction on the former North Highway 666.
In his community he was responsible for foundations and footing, bricklaying, stucco and plastering, completing numerous homes, hogans and fences for his family, friends and relatives, while employed with Navajo Nation C.E.T.A. Most of these projects were done voluntarily and at no cost. His last job was on the new cafeteria addition for Naschitti Elementary School in the late 1970's.
Joseph took great pride in telling stories of his life and the people he shared it with. He loved his family, friends and relatives very dearly. His favorite times were spent with his granddaughters, telling stories and watching classic John Wayne movies.
We will miss you, grandpa.
