Glen D. Farley Obituary
Glen D. Farley, 82, of Aztec, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, in Aztec. He was born Sept. 5, 1931, to Edgar Jackson Farley and Emma Pearl Lingo.
Big Papa was born in Nashville, Ark. and moved with his family to the Texas panhandle in the 1940s, where he met the love of his life, his true soul mate, Leontine Martin. They were married in Clovis and shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served his country in the Korean War as an anti-aircraft gunner. He returned to Texas and worked in the construction and oil field business. He and Leontine and their children moved to San Juan County in the late 1950s. He then worked for American Tank and Steel for 30 years.
Glen was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He was well known by all as the man who could design, build or fix anything. He was the patriarch and rock of strength for his family. He was married to his beloved wife for 57 years and was loved and respected by them all. He was a true American and patriot.
Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Ivy Leontine Farley; parents; brothers, Edgar Farley Jr., Wendell Farley, Eugene Farley, Odell Farley and Wayne Farley; and sisters, Louise Chandler and Francis Lingo.
He is survived by his sons, Randall Wade Farley and Marvin Dale Farley; daughters, Glena R. Poucher, Vicky North and Angela Sterling; brothers, James Farley and Billy Farley; sisters, Ethel Osbourne and Shirley Baugh; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be from 3 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7, at Alternative Choice Chapel in Farmington.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, in the Aztec Cemetery, with Brent Heddin officiating.
A reception will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Desert Heights Community Church, 1420 Schofield Lane in Farmington.
In lieu of flowers, go fishing or camping on your next day off.
